Dr. Laura Gries provides the most INCREDIBLE massage you could ever imagine! She is a Master in both traditional and Thai massage, (I have done them both), and both are by far the best massages I have ever had! I feel it is especially important during the winter months when our muscles are tight and achy to get weekly massages. She also teaches personal Yoga.         I have had a chronic feet injury (tendon inflammation on one and plantar fasciitis on the other) since an year and by the time I had met Dr. Gries, I had gone through 3 months of physical therapy and I was told as a next step to consider steroidal injections or other such more intrusive methods. That is when I looked for alternatives and landed on acupuncture on a friend's suggestion and found Dr. Gries online purely based on the reviews. I have been with him for 3 months now and I have tried couple of other acupuncturists in between and I must say, he is really amazing on multiple fronts. He has a very systematic method to treatment as well as track our progress, he is very detailed and transperent and extremely easy to talk to- judgement free. While my feet are much much better today and I see the light at the end of the tunnel and feel I will be back to normal soon, I am grateful for not just the treatment but my relationship with pain; Dr. Gries talked through my experience with chronic pain and really helped me see things differently and it has been incredible; I have also started to work with Laura on bringing in yoga and exercise back into my life and strengthen my feet systematically- they together are extremely passionate and truly holistic in their approach and I am really grateful for all the support I am receiving.           I have always leaned toward a non traditional approach when it comes to health and healing. My mother is a naturopathic doctor in NY and when I moved to Raleigh, it was important to me to find a way to navigate life and health in a similar fashion. As a new mom, I struggled with postpartum depression and all the emotions and hormones that came with it. I remember calling my OB for advice and was given a script for antidepressants to cope. I had reservation/fear of taking meds and I consulted my mom about it. She suggested acupuncture, and after a little research/reading rave reviews I found Awakenings. Deana, who mainly manages the scheduling explained to me that Dr. Gries specialized not only in acupuncture, but in life coaching as well. With that recommendation I decided to give both a chance. BEST DECISION EVER. From the moment I first stepped in his office, I felt peace. He is such an incredible listener and truly cares! I get an instant sense of calm and have no problem being transparent knowing I am in a safe place. In the past 3 years he has helped me navigate marriage, family hardships, pregnancy/postpartum, motherhood and whatever else life throws my way. I believe his guidance (in addition to the magic of needles) has given me skills and helped me grow as a person. I cannot say enough positive things about Awakenings!

            In 1999 I contracted Lyme Disease and have had quite a colorful health journey ever since. There have been an array of pains and problems such as GI pain, joint problems, eye infections and allergies. For most of my pains, regular doctors could not find a source to treat, so I have had to live with it. Lyme Disease has caused arthritis in my knees which landed me 4 knee surgeries in 8 years. In 2017 I started looking into acupuncture for my daughter's shoulder. Finding Dr. Gries who had an orthopedic background as well as being a doctor of eastern and western medicine was very intriguing. At first, I was skeptical that acupuncture could live up to all it claimed, but now I am a believer. The treatments and herbs give actual relief to my Lyme Disease related pains. Most importantly, Dr. Gries doesn't think I am crazy because there is no definitive "source." He found 2 of the tears in my knee and has gotten me through 3 of my surgeries.
